Ed3 Weekly Issue #122: Chain of Schools
Web3 news from schools implementing blockchain technology
Hello Ed3 Community,
Blockchain and web3 continue finding new corners of our education spaces of innovation. This tells me there are entirely new areas ready for breakthroughs.
About a year ago, I began envisioning more applications for AI in our schools and foresaw a need for legal policy and guidance. Now, UC Berkeley has announced the first law degree specifically focused on artificial intelligence.
A few years ago as El Salvator became the first country to adopt a Bitcoin-based monetary system I wondered how that would impact educating the next generation of students in finance. Boom, an El Salvodor-based non-profit is providing comprehensive Bitcoin education to students and communities.
These are the types of resources you'll find in this week's Ed3 Weekly. Today's companies are addressing yesterday's challenges, creating a chain reaction of innovations shaping the future of Web3 worldwide.
The title of this week’s issue is a play on the famous song “Chain of Fools.” But this isn’t any ordinary chain, it’s the blockchain. And it’s not “fools” we’re talking about, but our schools, the place where we grow or our most precious resource.
And don’t forget to check out my summary of this week’s resources on the Ed3 Weekly Podcast.

High School students use a virtual reality exhibit to learn about the Holocaust

This article is about a partnership between the UCONN School of Education and a local high school to build a curriculum about the Holocaust and larger issues of identity using VR. We often hear of immersive learning being used for science and history, but I starting to hear more and more examples of VR use for lessons on empathy and social and emotional learning.
This was most recently discussed in issue #121 with the article titled “Montclair Awarded $1 Million to Develop Unique Character Education Course Using Virtual Reality.”
It is exciting to learn about the possibilities of VR to be used to support SEL curriculum and character education. I look forward to learning more about these types of transdisciplinary applications in the future.
