Ed3 Weekly Issue #115: I'm Back, Baby
After a long web3 winter, it's time to welcome back the amazingness of web3
Hello Ed3 Community,
In “The Fatigues,” a classic Seinfeld episode, George’s dad Frank returns to cooking, something he hasn’t done since the Korean War. Scarred by his last experience, Frank is hesitant but displeased with his wife’s cooking, he declares, “I’m back, baby!”
Similarly, in the web3 world, although we’ve been scarred by the metaverse hype machine of 2021-2022, we’re now growing tired of the artificial intelligence hype machine—though not our partners’ cooking.
So, for the summer of 2024, I declare: “We’re back!”
This week's resources highlight the advances we’re experiencing in the blockchain and web3 world. A major web3 education brand is looking to become a public company. An education VR company is making hundreds of thousands of metaverse assets available for learners. And the technology to enable large-scale adoption of blockchain is being developed.
Finally, on a personal note, an online university course on web3 for continuing education credits is now open for registration! I’m excited to share that I am the designer of this course, in partnership with Ed3 DAO.
These are the types of events around web3 and education that inspire me to proclaim: “We’re back!” I hope that when you read these resources, you feel the same inspiration.
It gives me great joy to search for and find these resources to share with all of you. Please enjoy!

Welcome Web3: An Introduction to Decentralized Digital Age for Educators

Don’t quote me on this, but this might be the only web3 course designed for educators offered at a state university. That may not be true, and it’s not the main reason I’m sharing this in this week’s newsletter, but it’s a cool thing to consider.
The important point is that there is a college course from Idaho State University aimed at educators and designed by an educator—me! It was a great experience partnering with Ed3 DAO to design this course.
My goal when creating this course was to provide educators with the information they need to understand the purpose and use of web3 in our classrooms of the future.
You can see the syllabus for the course here, and sign up to register here. What’s more exciting is that Idaho State is offering a one-time $200 credit for first-time registrants, which can be used to cover the cost of the course. Link to the credit here.
