Ed3 Educators and Kids and NFTs: Issue #15 of web3š¤education
Big week in the world of education and web3. In last week's newsletter, I highlighted the annual International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference in which there were a number of sessions related to the metaverse, AI, and AR/VR. The focus of this week's newsletter is on an educator-focused NFT project, Ed3 Educators.
I first heard about this project back in January. During that time I joined the community and participated as a community growth lead in Discord. Ed3 Educators describes itself the following way, "We are the FIRST NFT collection made by educators, for educators, powering a community of educators."
In June the NFT became available for mint. As of this writing, we are approaching 100 unique owners with a number of people having multiple Ed3 Educator NFTs in their wallets. The NFT provides owners with the following:
š§ The world's first Web3 for Education micro-credential
š” The world's first Web3 for education Unconference
ā Membership to the first DAO for Educators (Ed3 DAO)
š Social tokens to the Ed3 DAO
With the public mint now live and Twitter and Discord (link in the Ed3 Twitter bio), the community has been experiencing strong growth. I invite all of you to go to the website to learn more and mint your own!
The best part of being part of the Ed3 Educators community is the access to a professional network of educators that are active in web3. This has exposed me to new and interesting projects. I want to share a few in this week's newsletter.
NFT Kids Magazine has been an exciting revelation for me. I have learned about a number of interesting projects by kids through reading through the articles posted on their website and hanging out in their Discord. Did you know that there's a childrenās storybook that teaches about NFTs, WEB3, blockchain, and cryptocurrency? Neither did I. Take a look at wen moon? which explains the concepts of NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Finally, learn about a 13-year-old building software to make the metaverse more accessible.
There are more detailed descriptions of these resources below. If youāre not subscribed yet,Ā go to my profile and enter your email address to get this newsletter delivered to your inbox.
Home | Ed3 Educators ā www.ed3educators.org
Ed3 Educators was co-founded by Vriti Saraf, Michael Cohen, and Mike Peck. You can go to the website to learn about the NFT project, but I'd also suggest going to the webpage of the Ed3 DAO to understand the broader vision. While you're there you can read the whitepaper that outlines the missions and vision of the DAO.
What excites me about this project, and why I have volunteered to support it, is the focus on onboarding educators into web3. We are on the cusp of a significant internet revolution and need teachers to be involved. We were not part of the conversation during the most recent smartphone transformation. We are paying the price through the exploitation of students' data and privacy.
You can join this curious group of educators in a couple of ways. Purchase an Ed3 Educators NFT using either crypto or your credit card, follow us on Twitter, or join the Discord.
Digital Magazine Welcoming Kids and Families to the Metaverse ā nftkidsmag.com
NFT Kids Mag describes itself as "one of the most creative Kids NFT projects in the Metaverse." And I couldn't agree more! Co-founded by 13-year-old NFT artist and photographer Gemeidon, this publication provides news, resources, and info aimed at kids and NFTs. They also have a vibrant Discord community with members sharing resources and having conversations about NFTs for young people.
Bookworm NFT Children's Book "wen moon?" ā bookwormnft.com
The book wen moon? is the first childrenās storybook that teaches about NFTs, WEB3, blockchain, and cryptocurrency. The authors describe it as "a delightful story that explains the concept of an NFT, cryptocurrency, how they work, and the culture thatās built up around them." I haven't purchased a copy myself, but it is definitely on my "wishlist."
13-year-old Egyptian Building His Own Metaverse ā www.euronews.com
There are two things that get me the most excited about web3āyoung builders, and builders from developing countries. This story about Egyptian teen Omar Wael covers both.
The goal of Wael's project is to "allow pupils like himself to attend classes via the metaverse." Through his passion for AI and other technology has won local and international awards. Stories like this get me excited about the possibilities of web3 to empower underserved communities across the globe.
